Baxter Rains was born in Atlanta, Georgia.   Baxter's first ambition was to become a minister.  His career goals changed and his life's work follows the ministering path of art.  He received a BVA in Sculpture and Art History from Georgia State University and Drawing from Atlanta College of Art and a MFA in Sculpture from Universidad de Guanajuato, Instituto Allende, Mexico  www.instituto-allende.edu.mx.  He has taught at Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Atlanta College of Art, Instituto Allende in Mexico.  Baxter has also been involved with several foundations for the benefit of artists.  His writings and essays on Art for the Blind, Accessible Art, advocating funding for the arts, and various critiques have appeared in a number of trade publications, newspapers, and in the newsletter, Studio Link.  Baxter Rains has been a professional sculptor since the mid 60s.  Today, he and Barbara Osmundsen live and teach art on the Space Coast, Florida.

The Spiritual in Art

Baxter Rains is a contemporary artist and sculptor whose work expresses a complex diversity of the individual as well as the commonality in the human condition in relation to universal form.  Greatly influenced by the works of Henry Moore and Reg Butler, Baxter whole-heartily responds to his subconscious artist.  Baxter creates sculpture with a metaphysical atmosphere.  He asks the questions of a seeker and encourages self-reflection and transcendence.  The meaning of his work reflects his personal (spiritual) journey and his message nurtures us all.

"As an artist, I try to live and work as ideally as I possibly can and not allow the constrains of day-to-day living keep me from the art that I am suppose to be doing."          ...Baxter Rains
